Lights, music and sweets fill Leicester's streets
Thousands of people gathered in Leicester, in the English Midlands, last weekend for the city's Diwali celebrations, considered among the largest outside India. Families of Hindu, Sikh and Jain backgrounds were joined by neighbours of many other faiths and cultures. Along the main road, thousands of lights were switched on as dancers performed and local shops offered traditional sweets.
A volunteer explained that her grandparents had arrived in the city in the 1970s with very little. 'Now our festival is part of Leicester's identity,' she said. 'My English friends ask me when Diwali is before I tell them.' Organizers said the event shows how traditions brought by migrants can become part of a shared local culture.

A alternativa C contradiz a fala dela, porque seus amigos ingleses perguntam a data do Diwali antes mesmo de ela contar.
